Juniors and undecided seniors: Pay attention to the college and military recruiter listing in the glass case outside of guidance. Plan to get a pass to attend schools you might be interested in.

LLCC has re-scheduled its campus visit day to this coming Monday, March 3. There are 2 sessions to choose from. 9:00-11:30 or 5:00-7:30. Register at LLCC.edu

Juniors and Seniors: The college bus trip to Illinois State University, Normal will be on March 20. Permission slips are on Mrs. Povse's door or in the Guidance Office. Slips are due Wed., March 12.

Juniors. Are you interested in receiving up to 12 college credits prior to graduating from high school? Are you interested in a $2,000 per year housing scholarship for college? Then you may be interested in attending the Commonwealth Honor's Academy.

Attn Students Class of 2017, a parent and guardian meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 4 from 6-7:30 pm in the SHS Commons. Ms. Guerrero will be discussing topics such as how to develop your high school plan, college readiness, and 10th grade standardized testing. Students must have a parent or guardian present to attend.

The Springfield Urban League is sponsoring the annual tour of Historically Black Colleges and Universities during our spring break, April 13-19. $500 includes luxury bus, hotel, some meals. Details are available from Candace Silas 544-1380 or from Mrs. Povse. Payment due by March 1.

SENIORS WHO HAVE NOT COMPLETED THE FAFSA TAKE NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING: State Rep. Sue Scherer and the Illinois Student Assistance Commission will be having a Financial Aid Workshop Tuesday, March 4 at 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Springfield Lincoln Library located at 326 S. 7th St. BRING YOUR TAX AND BANK INFORMATION.

Next Thursday night, March 6, Illinois College in Jacksonville will be hosting the Illinois College Exposition, a college fair. It will be held in the Bruner Fitness and Recreation Center from 6:30-8:00. Illinois College is only 30 minutes away. Check out these colleges and get information on a variety of Midwest schools.

Any Junior interested in attending The Commonwealth Honor's Academy at Murray State University this summer should see Mr. Barnes for more information.

ALL SOPHOMORES: We will be taking a group of sophomores to Lincoln Land for Career Day on the morning of Tuesday, Mar. 11. Students will have an opportunity to meet over 50 business representatives and ask valuable career questions. Permission slips are available in the Guidance Office. Only the 1st 90 students to return permission slips will attend. Signed permission slips must be returned to the Guidance Office by TUE, Mar. 4, 3:30pm.

Seniors, TODAY is the last day you can put your baby pictures in this year's yearbook. The cost is $10.

Seniors, to celebrate your graduation, buy a “Yearbook Happy Ad." Prices begin at $40.

Habitat for Humanity is looking for volunteers to walk with their playhouse float in the St. Patrick's Day Parade, Saturday, March 15, 11:45 a.m. Every parade volunteer will receive a free Habitat t-shirt. They are also looking for volunteers to help with their upcoming Youth Build (House #94), and they are offering a $1,000 scholarship for the student volunteer with the most work hours. If you ride bus #1 or #3 please go to 169 before the end of the day. Some of the routes has been eliminated.

The boys track and field team competed at the Normal West Invite last night. No team scores were kept. Top placers for SHS were: Tyler Owens 5th in the 1600, Vernon Halloway 5th in the triple jump, and the 4x800 relay team of Heath Warren, Tyler Owens, Michel Neposchlan, and David Sias placed 5th. The boys next compete at the Jacksonville Invite next Friday.

Black History Month Trivia, if you know the answer, please see Mr. Medard in room 326 1st hour. Who Am I? Born into slavery in 1856, I later became known as one of the early civil rights activists. During my childhood and adolescence, I worked various jobs while also going to school. In 1881, I founded the Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute, which focused on training African Americans in agricultural jobs.
