Good morning Springfield High! Today is Thursday, March 13, 2014 where successful Senators are focused, alert, on task, and engaged in the classroom. Thank you for Being A Senator!

Juniors and undecided seniors: Pay attention to the college and military recruiter listing in the glass case outside of guidance. Plan to get a pass to attend schools you might be interested in.

College Recruiters for February. Get a pass in Guidance or from Mrs. Povse to attend.

Permission slips for the SIU-Edwardsville trip on April 1 are now available on Mrs. Povse's door or in the Guidance Office. Slips for this trip are due March 26.

The Western Illinois University bus trip has been re-scheduled for May 7. A few additional seats are available for this trip. See Mrs. Povse in 153A for a permission slip. Students who previously signed up are good to go.

Juniors and Seniors: The college bus trip to Illinois State University, Normal will be on March 20. Permission slips are on Mrs. Povse's door or in the Guidance Office. Slips are due,today, Wed., March 12.

Congressman Aaron Schock will be hosting an informational meeting for the five U.S. Service Academies on Tuesday, April 22 at 7:00p.m. at the Springfield Air National Guard. If you are interested in the Air Force, Merchant Marine, West Point, Naval or Coast Guard Academies you should RSVP by April 15 to renard.jackson@ang.af.mil

Students selected for the Illinois State University bus trip will be notified during 1st or 2nd hour next Tuesday. There are more student permission forms than seats on the bus so grades will be heavily scrutinized as well as those who went on a previous trip. We want to give all qualified students a chance to go on at least one trip.

Juniors. Are you interested in receiving up to 12 college credits prior to graduating from high school? Are you interested in a $2,000 per year housing scholarship for college? Then you may be interested in attending the Commonwealth Honor's Academy. Any Junior interested in attending The Commonwealth Honor's Academy at Murray State University this summer should see Mr. Barnes for more information.

The Springfield Urban League Scholarship is now available on the SHS scholarship database or from Mrs. Povse. Deadline is April 11. The Delta Sigma Theta Sorority scholarship is now available on the database or from Mrs. Povse. Deadline is March 29.

Tomorrow, Friday, March 14th is the last day to sign up for any AP Exams in the guidance office. The cost of the exams is $89 a piece. See Mr. Barnes with questions.

Attention seniors. Graduation announcement order pick up from Jostens will be before school, 7:30am to 8:15am, and during A and B lunches on March 27 in the Commons.

If you are interested in participating in the Work Program next year please pick up an application from the guidance office. You can return the application to your guidance dean, Mrs. Devlin or Mr. Mose.

Students, who signed up to walk with the Habitat for Humanity float on Saturday, should meet briefly with Mrs. Williams after school today in front of the auditorium.

FREE T-SHIRTS FOR BLOOD DONORS!! Staff & Students 16 or older can donate blood to the Central Illinois Community Blood Center on Tue., March 25, from 8:30am-2:30pm. Students aged 16 must have a signed parental consent form. You must sign up during lunch, before school, or after school in the Guidance Office by 3:30 pm on Monday, March 24. Teachers & Staff do not need to sign up, you can report to the auditorium at your convenience. Please donate. Mrs. Fisher, in the Main Office, is LIVING Proof that blood donations SAVE LIVES! She received 3 units of blood through two life-saving transfusions! Any questions-please see Alina Parikh.

They’re HERE!! Don't forget to pick up your Avanti's Gondolas and loaves of bread in the Commons TODAY during both lunch shifts and until 4 p.m. in the Commons. Make sure to bring your tickets. There will be a limited number of Gondolas and bread to purchase. Gondolas are $7 and loaves of bread are $3.

Attention all NHS Members! Student Council is hosting the 41st Annual Senior Citizen Dinner. This is a great way to earn Service hours. The dinner is April 2nd from 4:30 to 7 PM. The more volunteers, the better. Please see Miss Maloney for more details!

The Lady Senators Track and Field team finished third at the Lady Wildcat Indoor Invitational at Illinois Wesleyan last night. Leading the Lady Senators were Sarah Sepanski with a first in the 60 (7.86) and a second in the long jump (16'10) and Aly Goff first in the 800 (2:23.28). Other top finishers for the Lady Senators were the 4x800 team of Mads Nelson, Carrie Rolf, Ellie Hamill, and Aly Goff placing second (10:13:48), third place finishes by the 4x200 team of Michela Pattie, Ingrid Samuels, Kyra Webster, and Kierra Weir (1:51.97), the 4x400 team of Sarah Sepanski, Carrie Rolf, Aly Goff and Kyra Webster (4.16.83), Reilly Stiver 5th in the 400 (1:06.33), and Mads Nelson 6th in the 1600 (5:41.46).
