Good morning Springfield High! Today is Thursday, September 25, 2014 where successful Senators are focused, alert, on task, and engaged in the classroom. Thank you for Being A Senator!

Juniors and Seniors: College and military recruiters will be visiting SHS. Look at the schedule outside Mrs. Povse's office, room 153A or listen to the morning announcements to see if you are interested in attending. These schools will come once in the fall and then possibly again in the spring. If scheduled during a class period you must get a pass in Guidance or from Mrs. Povse to attend. If scheduled during lunch you do not need a pass. The representative will be at a table in the Commons.

Senior Portraits, which WILL BE included in this year's yearbook, must be taken at Class Act Photography located 484 South Durkin Drive. Seniors should call them at 787-4947 to make their appointments for the portraits, which cost $15. To be included in this year's yearbook, the portraits must be taken no later than December 12, 2014.

SENIORS: The following scholarships are now available on the Scholarship Database: Sangamon Valley Mensa, an essay describing your career or academic goals, due Jan. 15 and the Horatio Alger for students with financial need who have exhibited perseverance in overcoming personal adversity, due October 25 and the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards Program for outstanding volunteerism, due Nov. 4.

ATTENTION ALL NHS MEMBERS: We will have mandatory meetings Today after school in the library. You do not have to attend both meetings but you MUST be in attendance for at least one. Remember, binders are due on the 30th! Questions? See one of your officers.

Have you been called innovative, creative, or inspirational? Have you taken great ideas and made them a reality? Are your projects making a positive difference in your community? The Celebrating High School Innovators event will honor high school students across Illinois who have been able to meet current and emerging social needs through innovation in one of five areas: 1) Arts, Media, & Literature, 2) Business Entrepreneurship, 3) Food, Health & Nutrition, 4) Social Entrepreneurship, and 5) STEM. These are not necessarily the students with perfect test scores or a 4.0 GPA, but those whose curiosity, creativity, passion, and dedication have led them to change their communities and have inspired those around them to do the same. Achtung, Achtung German Club! We will be having our first movie night today in room 250. Please join us in watching "The Inheritors" and have some snacks and drinks. The parent-permission form can be found on the calendar of the German Club website. Hope to see you there.

Looking for an excellent adventure and great learning experience this summer? Join us this Monday, September 29th at 6:30 in the Commons for an informational meeting about a ten day excursion to Italy, Switzerland, and Germany. This is a chance for students and their parents to learn more about this great opportunity and ask any questions that you may have.
