Good morning Springfield High! Today is Thursday, May 7, 2015 where successful Senators follow the classroom and school wide expectations and allow for learning by all throughout the building. Thank you for Being A Senator!

Sophomores and Juniors: Washington University, St. Louis is holding a "College Kick Start" program this summer on June 23 or July 30 for students and parents to gain insights into college planning. Both programs are scheduled from 7:45 to 12:15 and are free. Register at 800-638-0700 or admissions@wustl.edu

SCHOLARSHIP NEWS: Urban League scholarship, May 8; Zeta Phi Beta, June 30; Lincolnland Illini and ATO for students going to UIUC, May 23, June 26.

SENIORS: Next Wednesday is Decision Day!! The Senior Meeting regarding end of year responsibilities, senior recognition night, graduation practice and graduation will be held during the morning. Students will be dismissed to the auditorium after announcements. At this meeting you will elect the representative boy and girl to speak for the class at graduation. Following the meeting you will get your caps and gowns. It will be at this time that you create a flag showing your fall 2015 decision. To where have you committed? A college, the military, employment? You will place your flag on the map showing your DECISION. At this time as well, all the scholarship offers for the class will be on display in the commons. So you have only 5 more days to get that scholarship information to Mrs. Povse. To date the class has $6,432,926.

The University of Spa & Cosmetology Arts will be holding an Open House on June 3 from 5:00-7:00p.m. at 2913 West White Oaks Drive. Come and learn about cosmetology, classic barbering, massage therapy, nail technology and esthiology.

JUNIORS: Sign up with College Week Live, High School Connect and be able to take virtual tours of colleges, find admissions information, pricing, and more. This could save you time and money in your college search.

SENIORS: If you are planning to attend LLCC next year remember to get out there and take your placement test, meet with an academic advisior and register for your classes. The sooner you do this, the better your schedule will be. You can get a College Day Pass in Guidance to do this.

Seniors and Juniors taking college days: Please remember that you need to have any college days approved in advance of your absence, and use a Pink College Day form from the guidance office. White, photo-copies of the pink form will not be accepted. If you have any questions, please see Mr. Barnes, or Mr. Williams.

Students - Please make sure all absences are cleared within 48 hours of your last absence either by having parents call or providing notes from doctors for absences. Students you can log into the cumulative folder to check for any attendance discrepancies. This is just a reminder as we approach the end of the year and final exam exemptions. The final exam schedule and the exam exemption policy are posted on the SHS website.

The BE A SENATOR 4TH QUARTER ACKNOWLEDGEMENT will be held the week before Finals. The criteria is: no referrals, no unexcused absences, and no tardies.

If you would like to take Behind The Wheel in June, stop by Ms. Dvorak’s room, room 128 and sign up. There are limited spots remaining, stop by ASAP.

Want some extra spending money? Don’t forget about Crimestoppers. Information you have maybe rewarded with up to $100.00 cash. You will remain anonymous. Find a security member, administrator, or teacher you trust. Give them your tip. Recently, there has been an increase in thefts and Crimestoppers wants to remind you to lock up your belongings before you become the next victim. Remember Crimestoppers wants your tips not your name.

FREE T-SHIRTS FOR BLOOD DONORS!! Staff & Students 16 or older can donate blood to the Central Illinois Community Blood Center on Fri., May 15, from 8:30am-2:30pm. Students aged 16 must have a signed parental consent form. You must sign up during lunch-in the Commons, before school or after school-in the Guidance Office by 3:30 pm on Thursday, May 14. Teachers & Staff do not need to sign up, you can report to the auditorium at your convenience. Please donate. Mrs. Fisher, in the Main Office, is LIVING Proof that blood donations SAVE LIVES! She received 3 units of blood through two life-saving transfusions! Any questions-please see Taylor Knapp.

SENIORS please make sure that all your library books & fines are turned in or taken care with Mrs. Dahmane by May 8th and your transcript & lab fees are paid and all old textbooks have been turned in by May 13 to receive your Gap and Gown.

Attention all seniors wanting to be a part of the annual senior issue of the school paper, today is your last chance - The survey questions are out and can be picked up in Negele's room (362), or from any senior newspaper staffer. To make this as enjoyable and humorous as possible, all surveys and pictures are due by after school today. Feel free to have fun with it, but please keep it appropriate, ONE, FIVE!

Big Brothers Big Sisters Applicants: Please turn in Big Brothers Big Sisters application to the Guidance Office before the end of the school year. We will start the interview process soon and will match up students for the fall. Please drop off your application today!
