Seniors interested in a business-related field within the state of Illinois can apply for the Kathryn Hansen $500 scholarship. Essay and 2 letters of recommendation. See Mr. Lawson or Mrs. Povse for the application. Deadline is Feb. 12, 2010.

The Lincoln Land Community College Foundation scholarship is now available. Students who plan to attend LLCC should get a copy from Mr. Lawson or Mrs. Povse. The scholarship is also available at www.llccfoundation.org Deadline is Feb. 1

SENIORS: Please check the scholarship bulletin board outside room 106 or the SHS online Guidance / scholarships site for new scholarship opportunities. New scholarships for students planning to enter teaching, physical therapy, occupational therapy, business, transportation or logistics, health care and Affiliation with the Scottish Rite Masons. Check with Mrs. Povse or Mr. Lawson for specifics.

SAVE THE DATE: FAFSA Workshop on Feb. 9, 6:30-8:30 in the Commons. If you need additional help in filing the FAFSA, don't miss this meeting.

Show that someone special you care. Valentine Rose Teddy Bears will be sold during lunch beginning Jan. 19. Cost is $3.00.

Girls interested in engineering: Northwestern University is sponsoring the 39th annual Career Day for Girls on Feb. 27. Reservations are required and must be received by Feb. 12. See Mrs. Povse for application and details.

Do you have a passion for acting? Have you always wanted a chance to learn or a place for your talent to grow? Wouldn’t it be great if there were a club? Well, your needs have been answered! Come sign up in the main office. We would like all sign up to be completed by tomorrow.

A $1000 scholarship is available to a senior female athlete who is in the top 10% of her class and is involved in school activities and has good citizenship. See Mrs. Stahly if you would like to be nominated for this scholarship through the LPGA State Farm Classic.

Hey Senators! Have you ever wanted to torture your teacher? Don’t miss your opportunity to make this happen today! Donate to your teacher of choice during lunch and the top three that earn the most money by the end of B lunch today will be inflicted some sort of public humilation at the pep rally. Several teachers and your very own principal have volunteered for this opportunity. You don’t want to miss it!

The following college bus trips have been arranged for 10th, 11th, and 12th graders:
Feb. 18th, Illinois College and MacMurray College, Jacksonville
Feb. 25th, Illinois State University, Normal
March 4, Western Illinois University, Macomb
March 16, Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville
At each campus there will be an admissions presentation, a campus tour, a housing tour, and lunch.
Permission slips are available in the Guidance Office from Mrs. Povse.

Scholarships of $7500 await 25 outstanding scholar athletes in grade 12 nationwide. If you are a star both in the classroom and on the field, the Scholar Athlete Milk Mustaches of the Year Award Program may be for you. To find out more, go to bodymilk.com Deadline is March 5.

Tickets for Boys Basketball City Tournament are now on sale in the Main office. Tickets are $4 in advance and $5 at the door.

SHS is participating in the Spirit of Giving food drive and we are asking students to bring a can of food to Coach Reed’s room this week. You will get your name in a drawing for a gift certificate. Bring a can to the City Tournament games also. Last year, SHS won the triple crown of city tournament – we won the games, the spirit award, and the Spirit of Giving. Let’s do it again!

The Girls Basketball game vs Peoria Richwoods scheduled for Saturday has been moved to the convention center. JV starts at 1 PM and Varsity begins at 2:30 PM.

If you purchased last year’s yearbook you should have received a supplement in homeroom yesterday. If you did not get your supplement see Mrs. Devlin in room 112 before school.

The class of 2012 will be selling breadsticks today during both lunch shifts in the commons. You can enjoy 3 delicious breadsticks and sauce for $2. Remember breadsticks from Pizza Hut today – get them while they last!

The next Spanish Club meeting will be held after school Monday, January 25th in the commons. Join us for LINGO, treats, and a piņata! Yearbook will be taking pictures also.
