Any junior who qualifies for a PARKING PASS and would like the opportunity to be put in for a lotto spot, if there are any available after seniors, can sign up in the Main office Today or tomorrow. To qualify for a parking pass, you must have good attendance, be IHSA eligible, and have few disciplinary actions in your file. Parking pass for second semester is $25. If selected, you must provide proof of current registration, current insurance and a valid driver's license.

A local accounting firm, Sikich, is offering a renewable scholarship to a senior who plans to major in accounting. See Mr. Lawson ASAP.

St. Jude Fact of the Day: St. Jude has treated children from all 50 states and from around the world! St Jude shares their research findings freely with doctors and scientists all over the world so hospitals like St. Johns Hospital here in Springfield can treat patients using the latest protocols available. St. Jude has developed protocols that have helped push overall survival rates for childhood cancers from less than 20% when the hospital opened in 1962 to more than 70% today. SENIORS: It is now time to be working on your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). FAFSA is required before you can receive any free money, federal loans or even some scholarships. The first step in filing FAFSA is applying for a PIN number, which is your electronic signature. Apply for your PIN now at: www.fafsa.pin.ed.gov
Save the date, February 11 for a FAFSA/financial aid presentation at 6:30p.m. in the Cafeteria.

10th, 11th, and 12th graders: The following college bus trips are planned: Friday, Jan. 30 Illinois College and MacMurray in Jacksonville; Friday, Feb. 20 Illinois State University Normal; Friday, March 27 McKendree University, Lebanon. A free lunch will be provided at Illinois College and McKendree. Get your permission slip from Mrs. Povse in the Guidance Office.

Operation smile is an organization that is dedicated to helping improve the lives of children worldwide born with cleft lips, cleft palates, and other facial deformities. To join Springfield High School's chapter of Operation Smile and help raise funds and awareness, come to room 366 after school Thursday, January 22. New members are welcome and refreshments will be provided.

There will be a meeting for all girls interested in playing soccer this spring on Friday, January 23 after school in room 324. The meeting will take no more than 15 minutes. Winter Sport athletes need not attend. If you cannot make it for any reason, please see Coach in room 324.

Tickets for Boys Basketball City Tournament go on sale in the Main office starting Today. Tickets for each night are available for $4 a ticket, tickets will be $5 at the door. Scarlet Line Poms perform Thursday, the Senators band perform Friday, and SHS tips off at 8 PM Thursday night, and 6:30 Friday & Saturday. Remember to win the Spirit Award there are a few sportsmanship/spirit rules to follow! No balloons, noisemakers, whistles or milk jugs of any kind, confetti, toilet paper rolls, silly string, dry erase boards, hand-held posters or newspapers are allowed. Also this year there is the Spirit of Giving Award, in 2008 Southeast came in first place and SHS last. The Spirit of Giving award is won by the school that collects the most cans and food brought to the tournament. All food collected goes to the St. Martin DePorres center and is distributed back to our community and families in need. You can show your Senator Pride by flooding the PCCC with red & black and bring food to donate! Thursday, January 22 we will have a pep assembly to kick off the City Tourney frenzy 6th hour and get you pumped up!

Attention Do Something's members! We will be having our next meeting Today after school in the art room. Come with new ideas for the New Year and be ready to volunteer! Remember the Do Something meeting next Tuesday!

The Sister Cities Association of Springfield has announced that they will be sponsoring their 15th high school student delegation to Ashikaga, Tochigi, Japan from June 12 -22, 2009. An informational meeting for the public will be held at Lincoln Library on Wednesday, January 21. The meeting will begin at 7 PM in the Carnegie Room South on the main floor. Attendance is not required for participation in the delegation, but application materials will be available at meetings or can be requested from delegation leaders. The application deadline is Friday, February 28, 2009

Blood Drive on Friday, January 30th, from 9am - 2pm. Students & staff will have an opportunity to donate blood to the Central Illinois Community Blood Center. Students must be 16 or older. Students aged 16 must have a parental consent form signed by a parent or guardian. The sign-up sheet, parental consent form, and information sheet can be found in the Guidance Office. You can sign up during lunch, before school, or after school, and everyone must sign up by 3:30 pm on Thursday, January 29th. If there are questions, please see Mr. Williams.

Seniors! Listen up.....Class of 2009 Senior Panoramic Picture has been rescheduled for Monday, April 27th at 8:30 AM!

The Consumer Education Proficiency exam will be on Tuesday, January 27, at 7:30 AM in the Library. Students who are not currently in the consumer education class can sign up for the test in the Guidance office.

The Lady Senator basketball team raised their record to 14 and 3 as they beat Granite City on Saturday 71 to 46. Leading SHS in scoring was Kelly Korza with 19 points, Allison Anderson had 13 and Zahna Medley and Demi VanDerWal each added 9. Next up for SHS is a road game tonight against Taylorville. Good job ladies.

The Wrestling team finished in 2nd place at the Urbana Tournament behind Glenbard East. Champions for the Senators were Dane Atwood, Ryan Spencer, and Noah Murray. Finishing 2nd were Kyle Seibert, John Williams, David Casper, and Adam Nudo. The Senators wrestle tonight against Taylorville.

Any boy not out for a winter sport and interested in being a part of the Boys Track & Field team, meet in the track locker room today after school.
