Good morning Springfield High! Today is Friday, September 8, 2017 where successful Senators follow the classroom and school wide expectations and allow for learning all throughout the building. Thank you for Being A Senator!

Are you interested in directing the Fall Play?  If so, pick up an application and requirements in the main office. The Fall Play is student directed and requires a staff member as the adult sponsor.  All applications are due on September 13th, 2017.

FREE T-SHIRTS FOR BLOOD DONORS!!  Staff & Students 16 or older can donate blood to the Central Illinois Community Blood Center on Tue., Sep. 19, 8:30am-2 pm, in the Auditorium. Students aged 16 must have a signed parental consent form. You must sign up during lunch-in the Commons, and before school or after school-in the Guidance Office by 3:30 pm on Mon., Sep. 18. Please sign-up ASAP because once the form is filled, you will not be able to sign up. Teachers & Staff do not need to sign up, you can report to the Auditorium at your convenience. Blood donations SAVE LIVES!  Any questions-please see Mr. Williams.

Any person interested in participating in Scholastic bowl this season should plan to attend the meeting on Wednesday, September 13 at 5:30 in the Commons with a parent. Contact Coach Teichman with questions

Attention SHS! If you would like to join German Club, please download the sign-up sheet from the German Club website, fill it out and turn it into Herrn Koeppel in room 250 with your membership fee of $5 by Friday, September 15. We hope to welcome you in German Club soon.

Do you want to have fun, build relationships and serve in your local community? You can apply to be on the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Illinois Teen Council.  The Teen Council meets once a month at the Ronald McDonald House, planning fundraisers and making an impact by serving others.  Pick up an application packet in the main office before or after school.

The Historical Game Club is meeting on Tuesday’s, Wednesday’s, and Thursday’s in Room 328 during both lunch shifts.  Risk, Axis and Allies, Settlers of Cataan, Game of Thrones, Walking Dead, and Star Wars games are all played. Everyone is welcome, bring your lunch.

Senator Nation: Fill the glass cases! WE are collecting items for Houston Hurricane relief Campaign to be dropped off in Room @233 before September 10, 2017. Items needed are water, dog food, toiletries, diapers, etc. For a full list see Ms. Huffman in room 233 or see the glass cases in front of the Main Office

Attention: All seniors who are graduating early, be sure to see Mr. Schurman in 104 for the early graduation contract / parent sign off form, ASAP

 Any choir student interested in getting a Singing Senators t shirt or hoodie, make sure your form and money is in to Mrs. Pinter NO LATER than Wednesday, Sept. 13th.  

Any choir student auditioning for ILMEA needs to have their form and fees turned in to Mrs. Pinter by Thursday, Sept. 14th!  Late forms will not be accepted.

*Order your 2017-2018 Capitoline Yearbook now in room 254.  The cost is $60. *Seniors, Contact Grussenmeyer Photography at 787-6688 to arrange to have your portrait taken for the yearbook and yourself.  If you want to have your baby picture in this year's yearbook, bring it and the $10 fee to room 254

Are you interested in learning sign language? If so, come to the Gandhi room in the library on Monday the 11th after school and learn more! Talk to either Clare Anders or Andrew Holliday if you can't make it to the meeting!

Attention Seniors.  Your class panoramic picture will be taken on Friday, September 15th at 8:00 am on the front lawn, weather permitting.  The pictures will then be available for purchase during the lunch shifts on Monday, September 18th.  Packages range from $25 to $45, and cash, checks, or money orders will be accepted.  Checks should be made payable to the Goldbeck Company.

Attention juniors and seniors interested in Physical Therapy, Nursing and Medical Education OR the U.S. Naval Academy. Mrs. Lauer has information about upcoming opportunities for workshops and exploratory sessions to learn more about these programs and professions. See Mrs. Lauer in the post secondary office room 153A or check “Special Programs” page on SHS’ guidance website for more information! 

Any Junior interested in taking the PSAT/NMSQT test should bring $18 to the Guidance office no later than next Friday, September 15th to sign up.  This is the National Merit Scholar Qualifying Test, and your score could qualify you for scholarship offers.  If you have any questions please see Ms. Smith.

Memorial Health System is hosting an event for students interested in pursuing education related to healthcare careers. It will feature schools, recruiters and academic advisors. The Healthcare Education Open House is on Sept 11 from 2-6 pm in the Nelson Family Auditorium at the Memorial Center for Learning and Innovation. Attention all weight lifters, Coach Berger will start the after school weight lifting program today immediately after school. Weight lifting will be Monday, Wednesday, and Friday each week.

Attention juniors and seniors: There will be a Historically Black College & University Fair in Danville on October 24th from 4-6:30pm. Please see Mrs. Lauer in the post secondary office or check the “Special Programs” page on the guidance webpage for details! 

Students and Staff - Parking lot checks have started.  We are checking for SHS parking stickers and that all cars are in the appropriate lot and space.  JUNIORs, we will raffle off five new parking spaces on Monday.  Make sure you are on the list to get a parking sticker so you have a chance of getting a spot.  Sign up in main office if you did not already.
