Good morning Springfield High! Today is Thursday, February 1, 2018.

The Public Information Sessions for Springfield Area high school students interested in applying for the Sister Cities Association of Springfield (SCAS) student exchange in Ashikaga, Japan will be Monday, February 12.The session will be at 7:00 pm in the Board Room of the Springfield District 186 Administrative Center, 1900 West Monroe Street, Springfield, IL 62704 (next to Grant Middle School, across from Fairhills Mall). 

Valentine flowers will be sold before school and during both lunch shifts in the commons.  If you want to order a flower to be delivered to that someone special be sure to buy one at the low cost of $1.00 per carnation. The flower will be delivered to students on Valentines Day here at school.

Attention juniors & seniors: February is filling up with college visits. Presentations will be held during A and B lunches or on Wednesdays after school. You will not need passes to attend, but should sign up outside the post secondary office so representatives know how many students to expect. Please remember to sign up outside the post secondary office. In February we will have presentations from Lincoln College, Truman State, Western, Illinois Wesleyan, Missouri State, University of Missouri at St. Louis (UMSL). Any questions, see Mrs. Lauer.

Sophomores & Juniors-The Capital Area Career Center/CACC Open House is February 8th, 5:00-7:00 pm, at their school location-2201 Toronto Rd, Springfield, IL 62712. This is a great opportunity for students to visit their programs.

Attention all young men interested in playing baseball- There will be a short meeting today after school in the Commons where you can sign up to try out and receive all of the information necessary for the upcoming spring season. If you have any questions, please see Coach Steinwart in room 166.

There is a poetry out loud meeting tonight in room 370.

Attention Juniors help make make the Sadie Hawkins dance a success, stop by Mrs. Eaton’s room today to sign up to paint decorations.

¡Atención Spanish Club! We will have a mandatory meeting after school today in room 260. See you then!

Attention seniors: Please make sure you are checking the scholarship database weekly! Several new scholarships have been added. There are scholarships available for any high school senior, scholarships for Varsity athletes, future nurses, those going to a community college, vocational, technical or trade school, etc. Take advantage of this opportunity! Any questions, see Mrs. Lauer in the post secondary office! 

Attention anyone who auditioned for Footloose.  Call back lists have been posted around the school.  If you have any questions see Mr. Schoppenhorst.

Celebrating "From Selma to Montgomery:  The Long Walk to Freedom" is the theme of this year's African American History Month of Celebrations.  The program will be held on February 23rd in the auditorium.

Also, all students are invited to participate in the essay, poster and trivia contests.  The trivia contest will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays in February, and Mrs. Moseley will begin the contest today.  All first period classes are invited to play and should bring their answers to her in room 368 no later than ten minutes after the question is posed.  Finally, students should see essay and poster contests requirements posted in the halls.

Reminder to all 9th graders who have met with Mr. Schurman for scheduling please return completed and signed 10th grade registration forms to guidance office ASAP please.
