Good morning Springfield High! Today is Thursday, April 26, 2018.

Jostens will be here May 1st during both lunch shifts in the Commons to deliver class rings.

Do you need help with tutoring in your AP classes? Then you can get help in the After-School Tutoring Program in Room 160 on Mondays, Tuesdays, or Thursdays from 3:30-4:30 PM.

Attention Juniors and Seniors, Prom Guest forms are available in the guidance office. Make sure you and your guest bring it with you to the prom along with your photo ID”S. 

Prom is almost here! Take a walk through our Enchanted Forres Prom at the Bank of Springfield Center on Saturday! Please bring your student ID to the venue. Tickets will be sold until Friday at lunch in the Commons. Couples are $35 and singles are $25. Senior court voting will take place today. Hope to see you there!

Extra, extra, read all about it!! The newspaper class is accepting applications for next year. If you are interested in writing, doing interviews, taking pictures and laying out, pick up your application from Ms Negele  in room 362. They must be returned by today. You cannot be a part of the newspaper family without applying and being accepted. 

The SHS Photo Video Club is looking for any male actor willing to play the lead roll in an upcoming short film. The character is a rough and dirty yet very friendly Homeless man.  Actors must also know how to portray emotion with little dialogue.  A few extras are also needed. Interested? Please sign up on the sheet posted outside the main office and come to one of the casting calls held today right after school in Mrs. Taft’s room 356. 

Are you ready for peach fuzz? Introducing the first annual peach fuzz, a guys vs. guys volleyball tournament in the gym on Friday, May 11th. Get your team of 6 and sign up for $18 per team. Safety forms can be found in the main office and shirt orders are coming soon. Girls, be there to root on your guys. See you there!

Summer school registration is June 15th from 7:30 - 5:30 at SHS.  Registration forms are available in the guidance office.

For Junior Students-Are you interested in becoming a teacher? UIS is offering a Dual Credit teacher education class for Senior year. For more information, sign up in the Guidance Office or see Mr. Williams ASAP. Sign-ups are on a first-come-first-seved basis.

The Scholastic Bowl End of the Year Banquet will be Monday May 21 at the Pizza Ranch. Please RSVP to Coach Teichman.  All team members should see Drew or Aidan regarding senior gifts.

2018 After Prom will be from 11:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. at SHS.  This is a free event for Juniors/Seniors & Registered Prom Guests to enjoy the fun and games and food   — and yes it’s free!!   Attendance prizes throughout the event—Grand Prizes at 2:45 a.m. – Must be present to win!!  What’s in store? Extreme games, food, SHS paint night, food, Improve Comedy troupe show, food, henna tattoos, photo booth, video game truck and did we mention—food??!!  Be sure to use the North Annex entrance and you must be checked in by 12:15. (All guests need identification.). Once you check in—you can stay and relax and have fun!    If you choose to leave, you may not return to the event.  So you can trade those dancin’ shoes in for comfy shoes and have some After Prom fun!

Are you wanting to eat more chicken? If so, be sure to come out to Chick Fil A at White Oaks today from 4:00 to 7:00 to support the class of 2021. Make sure to pick up a flyer in the main office or from a class officer and bring it with you to chick fil a. Be sure to write your fir st hour class on the flyer because the class with the most sales will win a 200 piece nugget tray! See you there!

There will be a GSA meeting in Mrs. Eaton’s room 370 today after school. We will be discussing t-shirts and parade info. All are welcome

Attention boys basketball players interested in playing basketball next season, need to pick up a schedule outside Mr. Crum's door which is room 228. 

FREE T-SHIRTS FOR BLOOD DONORS!!  Staff & Students 16 or older can donate blood to the Central Illinois Community Blood Center on Tue., May 15, 8:30am-2 pm, in the Bloodmobile outside of the Commons. Students aged 16 must have a signed parental consent form. You must sign up during lunch-in the Commons, and before school or after school-in the Guidance Office by 3:30 pm on Fri. May 11. Please sign-up ASAP because once the form is filled, you will not be able to sign up. Teachers & Staff do not need to sign up, you can report to the Bloodmobile at your convenience. Blood donations SAVE LIVES!  Any questions-please see Mr. Williams.

Seniors it’s not too late to earn scholarship money for next year! The American Legion Otis B. Duncan, Post 809 Scholarship and the William J. Baldon scholarship have been added to the scholarship database. See Mrs. Lauer or the scholarship database for applications! 

Parents/Students if you order your graduation cake from Meyer and would like to get 15% off please stop by the main office and pick up a coupon as there are a limited supply.

Seniors, please make sure you have your list of scholarship offers and amounts (note if it’s one time or renewable) ready to record onto the post secondary survey at the senior meeting on May 8th. Mrs. Lauer has to have this information for the end of year data and to display at Senior Recognition Night. Thank you! 

The SHS girls track and field team won the City Meet yesterday. City Champs for SHS were: Jackie Clem in pole vault; Ozzy Erewele in the 100 and the 200; Lauren Ferguson in the 300 hurdles; Gabby Wood in the 1600 and the 3200 and the 4x100 team of Hannah Burnes, Lauren Ferguson, Ta’Mya Dumas and Ozzy Erewele. Great job girls. 

The SHS Baseball Team suffered through a tough 12 to nothing loss to  the Cyclones of SHG, but they gave their best effort throughout the challenging  contest and never gave up against a more experienced crew. The positives included the only SHS hits by Ben Hartl and Jacks Hyde, as well as other well struck balls by Rico Johnson, Lucas Rockford, and Jimmy Hollahan. Next up is a doubleheader vs. Washingon at Lanphier Park tomorrow. 

The SHS softball had several girls with hits in last night's loss to a tough SHG team. Grace Vespa, Lauren Cozadd, Jaden Long, Claire Bess, and Maddie Cleary all contributed with hits to lead the way.

Student council and class officer packets for the 18/19 school year may be picked up today by the school store.  All packets are due Monday.

INSession Show Choir Auditions are open to all SHS students and incoming freshmen.  Auditions dates will be Wednesday, May 23rd from 3:30pm – 8:30pm; Thursday, May from 5:30pm - 8pm
in the commons area (please enter through commons area entrance).  Everyone will need to go through a vocal and dance audition .  We are looking for singers, dancers and actors of all kind. We are looking for strong singers and/or dancers; we are also looking for reliable, responsible and respectful members. This is drama/stress-free group where you can be yourself.
