Students parking lot checks have started. You may be towed if you are in violation. Remember if you are towed the tow bill will be your responsibility. Make sure that your parking permit is in the lower left hand corner of the front windshield.
Capitoline Yearbooks are still on sale at $70 a copy. If you don't have the full amount, you can pay a portion to secure a yearbook for you. Make your check or money order out to Springfield High School or bring your cash to room 254.
Tomorrow from 5:00-7:30 come to Springfield High Commons and get a take out Olive Garden dinner. Ticket costs are $10 each and are available in Main Office or you may call or text (217) 652-2545. Ticket includes salad, choice of pasta, sauce and choice of meat. All proceeds benefit Springfield High School after prom.
Attention sophomores: Mrs. Lauer will be taking up to 36 students on a field trip to Lincoln Land Community College on March 12th from 12-2pm to attend the ROCTE Career Day Event. Students will attend a Career Expo for trade professions. If you have signed up for CACC for the 2019-2020 school year, this would be an ideal opportunity for you to attend. The first 36 to sign up in the guidance office will be eligible to attend, pending all passing grades. Any questions, see Mrs. Lauer.
Tryouts for the 2019-2020 SHS Cheerleading squads are approaching. Tryout packets can be picked up in the from Coach Jacobs, or from Coach Johnson in room 168. The tryout process will begin with a mandatory tryout meeting Tuesday, March 12th at 6:00 pm in the SHS Commons. This is a MANDATORY informational meeting for parents and candidates that will provide all the details of the 2019-2020 season. All candidates and parents are required to attend. FREE T-SHIRTS FOR BLOOD DONORS!! Staff & Students 16 or older can donate blood to the Central Illinois Community Blood Center on Tuesday, March 12th from 8:30 am-2 pm, in the Bloodmobile (to be accessed thru the Commons). Students aged 16 must have a signed parental consent form. You must sign up during lunch-in the Commons, and before school or after school-in the Guidance Office by 3:30 pm on Friday, March 8th. Please sign-up ASAP because once the form is filled, you will not be able to sign up. Teachers & Staff do not need to sign up, you can report to the Bloodmobile at your convenience. If you are interested in working in Mamma Mia either backstage or in front of it, please fill out the application form for stage crew on Mr. Schoppenhorst’s school webpage. There are a limited number of positions. Applications are due on Friday.
The SHS boys track team finished in 6th place out of 24 teams at the Jacksonville coed Invite. Qa’Ron Hawkins won the triple jump, Robert Williams finished 2nd in the 400 and won the 55 hurdles in a new school record. The boys next compete at the EIU Invite on March 16th.
The girls track and field team won the Jacksonville Indoor Invitational Friday. Top finishers for SHS were: Jackie Clem 4th in pole vault; Hannah Burnes 4th in the 55m hurdles and triple jump; Ashanti Hanson 5th in triple jump; Lauren Ferguson 1st in the 55m hurdles and 2nd in the 400. The 4x200 & 4x800 placed 4th, and the 4x400 placed 2nd. Congrats girls!
