Parents and students - remember, 9th, 10th and 11th graders are testing on April 9th. All students are expected to bring their own calculator for the test.
Juniors & Seniors - pick up your permission forms for April 9th in guidance. Juniors - yellow form, Seniors - orange form. You must have the forms in by the date on the bottom for a junior early dismissal that day or a senior Activity day. See Mr. Kyes, Mr. Williams or Dr. Leardi with any questions.
Any student who wishes to sign up for an AP test, needs to sign up in the Guidance office until Friday. The price for each exam is $94, unless you qualify for a reduced rate. If you have any questions, please see Ms. Smith or Mr. Barnes.
Attention sophomores and juniors, if you applied to CACC for next year, Mrs. Lauer and Mr. Kyes have received word that each student has received his/her first choice program. If you have any questions, come see Mrs. Lauer or Mr. Kyes in guidance!
Attention Juniors: The Board of Education invites interested current high school juniors to apply to become the 2019-2020 Student School Board Member. One junior will be chosen to serve during their senior year. Applications will be accepted until 4:00 p.m. on Friday, April 12th and can be found on our school’s homepage. Please see Mr. Kyes or Mrs. Gordy if you are interested in applying.

Attention all freshman who have already taken classroom driver education. Please remember to bring your white sheet from your permit to Ms. Dvorak ASAP if you went and got your permit.

Chicago Field Trip to see Shakespeare's Hamlet still has some seats for eleventh and twelfth graders. See you literature teacher for more information.
The Springfield High School Boys Tennis Team competed in its first meet of the 2019 season this past weekend at the Metamora Indoor Quad in Peoria. The team finished 2-1, winning 9 of 15 matches, beating both Pontiac and Ottawa. Raj Sinha and Eric Martin dominated at singles cruising to three victories each. Each of the doubles teams faced stiff competition and came away with a combination of hard fought victories and losses. The team of David Jiang/Brian Becker won 2 of 3, while the teams of David Ye/Zeke Cross and Sascha Millard/Adrian Russo also had strong showings.
Save the date: Prom is on April 13th! Juniors and Seniors can pick up their complimentary keychains at lunch today and tomorrow in the commons!
The SHS boys track and field team finished 8th out of 34 teams at the Charleston Indoor Invite on Saturday. Top placers for SHS were: Qa’Ron Hawkins 4th in the triple jumper, the 4x800 relay team of Will Formea, Matthew Abe-Bell, Kyle Boughter and Ryan Waldinger finished 4th; the 4x400 relay team of Matthew Abe-Bell, Ryan Waldinger, Will Formea and Robert Williams finished 1st, and Robert Williams placed 1st in the 60 hurdles breaking his own school record! Congrats to the boys on a great indoor season.
Congrats to the 766 students who were eligible for McDs Shamrock Shakes on Friday with no referrals and no tardies. The 4th quarter reward will be Lunch on the Lawn so work hard to be on time and maintain good behavior so you can join us outside!
The SHS Scholastic Bowl team ended their season Friday with 92 wins and 26 losses at the IHSA State Tournament. A tight match against Orland Park’s Carl Sandburg High School started the day. Losses followed to Illinois Math and Science Academy and University High School, who ended up State Champs. This was the fourth visit to State for Springfield The Senators had not been to State since 2014. Congratulations on a winning season!
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Illinois (BGCCIL) in partnership with the City of Springfield and the Sangamon County Juvenile Justice Council, is hosting its 4th annual Teen Job Fair and Resource Expo. The event will take place April 5th from 6pm to 8:30pm at The Boys & Girls Club’s Central Unit, located at 300 S. 15th Street. Job seekers can get help filling out job applications, may receive on the spot interviews, and have a chance to enter multiple prize drawings. The event features many local employers and youth service organizations. The job fair will also include free food and beverages. This event is free to attend and geared toward teenagers 16-19 who are seeking employment or volunteer opportunities. Parents are also welcome to accompany their teen participant.

This unforgettable experience will empower, improve, and enhance your approach to dealing with diversity and inclusion in your school and community. This interactive day will create a space to build relationships with students from other schools while engaging in critical, thoughtful and challenging dialogue about moving beyond tolerance, leveraging differences, and changing the story. This is free to attend for all students. Please pick up a flyer in the main office if you are interested.
Jared Grimble, 2006 Springfield High graduate and 3x Grammy credited artist is returning to his hometown of Springfield to put on a show of a lifetime. Joined along side him will be featured singers from recent seasons of The Voice and American Idol. A portion of the proceeds will be going to the American Lung Association. Jared Grimble graduated from Springfield High in 2006. He was involved choir, Seven and Senators and other musical activities at SHS. He is currently living in LA writing and recording music. He has participated in The Voice and American Idol. Saturday, 3/23 from 7:00-11:00pm at Crowne Plaza. Doors open at 6:45pm.
