Juniors and Seniors - Wednesday is the College Fair in the Orr Building at the Illinois State Fairgrounds. Permission slips are in the Guidance Office and are due NO LATER than today by 3:30 to the Guidance Office. Students must be passing all of their afternoon classes and provide their own transportation. Juniors and Seniors who qualify will be allowed to leave after the end of 4th hour.
The Springfield Urban League's 21st Century program is an afterschool tutoring and enrichment program that services all students free of charge at SHS. Students will enjoy enrichment fieldtrips, college and career readiness tools, and many more fun educational activities. The program meets Monday-Thursday directly after school in the cafeteria and ends at 5:30 pm. Students are asked to bring homework and a positive attitude to the program daily. Applications for this program can be found in the guidance office or on the 21st Century office door. Parents can contact me Tia Mahr by email at email@example.com for further information.
The boys golf team lost the cup on Thursday. It came down to the last putt for SHG to seal a 3.5 to 2.5 victory over the senators. They also placed 3rd in the county tournament with Peyton Woods placing 10th overall with an 85. The senators are looking forward to Thursday in Decatur for the CS8 tournament.
The cross country team competed in their on invite on Saturday at Lincoln Park. The varsity team finished 6th out of 14 teams. Varsha Iyer was the top placer for SHS. Anna Kropid was the top finisher in the girls junior varsity race. The boys varsity team finished 3rd out 17 teams. Kyle Boughter was the top placer for SHS. The boys F/S team finished 1st out of 11 teams. Matthew Johnson, Jack Casey and Arnav Earve went 1st, 2nd and 3rd for SHS. In the boys JV race, JP Moore was the top finisher for SHS.
Juniors and Seniors two visits will take place today, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign will visit 5th hour and Columbia from New York will be here 7th hour. U of I is a competitive school that requires over a 1300 SAT and a 26 and up ACT. Columbia has a 6.1% acceptance rate, and have admissions standards that require a 32 or 1450 and up. Sign ups are outside Mr. Kramer's office.
Tomorrow will be Saint Louis University will be here 7th hour on Tuesday. You will need to have a 1250 and up or a 28 and up to attend the presentation.
Scholastic Bowl will have try-outs for new players on Tuesday in Mr. Covey’s room 510 directly after school.
Boys basketball open gym for tonight has been cancelled.
