The next blood drive is November 26th. See Mr. Covey in room 510 to signup to donate.  You must be at least 16 and weigh at least 110 pounds to donate.  9.5 million Americans donate blood each year.  An adult has approximately 10-12 pints of blood.  About 1 in 7 people entering the hospital need blood.  The blood center can produce up to 4 lifesaving products from 1 pint of whole blood.  More than 40,000 pints of donated blood are used each day in the US and Canada.  Cancer is the number one use of blood and blood products at 19%.  38% of the population is eligible to give blood, but less than 10% actually donate.  The US Food and Drug Administration regulates the blood supply and mandates that blood donors not be paid or receive any item “readily convertible to cash” in return for their donations. Only voluntary donations can be used for transfusion.

Join the SHS German American Partnership Program students next Wednesday, November 13th, from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Chipotle on Wabash Ave for their fundraiser. A portion of the proceeds from that night’s sales will go to support our SHS GAPP program. Make sure to show the cashiers the GAPP flyer when you dine in so GAPP receives credit for your purchase! The GAPP Chipotle fundraiser flyer can be located on the SHS website or you can contact a GAPP student for a copy. GAPP thanks you for your support.

As Senator basketball season is approaching, we are seeking support via advertisements in our new 2019-20 Senators Basketball memento book we are introducing this year. This book will feature a page for each senior athlete, as well as opportunities for family and friends to purchase additional spaces to highlight their athlete (Freshman - Junior) this upcoming season.  SHS students can purchase one and two-line “shoutouts” that will be placed throughout the book to encourage their favorite athletes.  Shoutouts can be purchased by teachers and students for $3.  Memento books will be sold for $10 each beginning at the first home game on December 5, 2019.  Order forms will be placed in the office.  Please attach your money along with the shoutout.  The last day to purchase your shoutout will be November 15th.  Please make checks payable to: SHS Boys Basketball program.
