The next blood drive is November 26th. See Mr. Covey in room 510 to signup to donate. You must be at least 16 and weigh at least 110 pounds to donate. 9.5 million Americans donate blood each year. An adult has approximately 10-12 pints of blood. About 1 in 7 people entering the hospital need blood. The blood center can produce up to 4 lifesaving products from 1 pint of whole blood. More than 40,000 pints of donated blood are used each day in the US and Canada. Cancer is the number one use of blood and blood products at 19%. 38% of the population is eligible to give blood, but less than 10% actually donate. The US Food and Drug Administration regulates the blood supply and mandates that blood donors not be paid or receive any item “readily convertible to cash” in return for their donations. Only voluntary donations can be used for transfusion.

The Girls Sectional swim meet was Saturday and there was some incredible diving and swimming . Freshmen Linden Neposchlan and Falyn Long led off the day, putting in fabulous performances in diving, scoring season high points. Juniors Kylie McMillan and Maddie Sievers and Sophomores Alexandra Bradley and Soo-yun Pippin teamed up to drop 6.4 seconds in the 200 Medley Relay, a season best! Soo-yun then went on to a season best in the 200 IM and 100 fly. Junior Liliana Tohme swam personal bests in the 50 free and 100 free. But, the best swims of the day were from Sophomore Alexandra Bradley, who dropped 3 seconds in her 100 breast, swimming an all time personal record and freshman Emily Brower who dropped almost 4 seconds in her 100 back, also swimming a personal best! Thanks to all the SHS Football players who volunteered their time to help in the concession stand and to time. We hope they learned what a great sport swimming is!
Students - Don’t forget the SIU mobile medical clinic is here at SHS every Tuesday.
