Group Picture Day is today.  Listen to the announcements for your group to be called.

In honor of upcoming Black History Month, SHS is sponsoring a writing contest titled “The Legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr.” The winning prize is $100. All essays are due to Mrs. Eaton by February 14th.  There is no word minimum or limit, so submit an essay and win $100!!

Hey Everybody!!  “Want to win a pack of gift cards or coupons? Enter your name into Pen In A Box Clubs drawing at lunch Wed. and Fri. every week at lunch by donating just a $1! The 3 winners will be announced at the boys basketball game Feb 28th so be there!”

Valentine's Day is quickly approaching and what better way to show that special someone you care by giving them a flower. Carnations will be sold before school and during both lunch shifts in the Commons. Cost is only $1.00. Flowers will be delivered Feb 14th during 3rd hour.

Join us at Chipotle on February 15th from 4:00-8:00 pm!! Shrek, the SHS Spring Musical, is sponsoring a fundraiser and hopes to see everyone there. Get a burrito and support Shrek!

How about a nice warm and yummy breakfast enjoying it with your family or friends.  Join us at a Flapjack Fundraiser Saturday, February 22, 8-10 am at the Applebee's, 3335 S. Veterans Pkwy.  Enjoy pancakes, bacon and a drink for only $5.  Get your tickets now from any GAPP (German American Partnership Program) student.  All proceeds go towards the GAPP exchange to Ingolstadt, Germany, this June.

Are you one of those people who didn’t purchase a yearbook in time? You are in luck. Out of the kindness of her heart, Ms. Moon purchased 50 extra books!! It’s first come first serve. You can still go online to purchase at www.yearbookforever.com or see Ms. Moon in 364 with $80 cash or check, but only until we get to the magic number 50!! After that, there are no more yearbooks to be bought.  Period!!

Any boys that are interested in playing tennis this spring there will be a meeting after school today in the Auditorium.

Juniors and Seniors who are eligible to apply for National Honor Society are posted on a list outside 326, 356, 153A, the Main Office, and the Library. If you are on that list and would like to apply, see Mr. Kramer ASAP. Final applications are due Tuesday, February 18th. Any questions, please see Mr. Kramer.

Sacred Heart Convent Food Service is currently hiring. If you are interested see Mrs. Devlin for information or apply in person at 1237 W Monroe St.

Buffalo Wild Wings is hiring - see flyer and application website hanging outside Mrs. Devlin's office.

SENIORS Mr. Kramer will be sharing out various scholarships in the weeks to come. See him with any questions. Highlighted this week: If you are going into teaching, special education, or are a registered Girl Scout see Mr. Kramer this week!

There will be a short, informational meeting for any girl interested in playing softball, today directly after school in room 116. See Coach Koger with questions.

GSA will meet today after school in Mrs. Eaton’s room.

Attention current juniors, there will be an informational presentation about next year’s Sangamon CEO class on Tuesday, February 18th at 2:00pm in the library. If you are interested in learning more about the class, please sign up in the guidance office. Passes will be written for those interested in attending. Any questions, see Mrs. Lauer in guidance.

Be A Senator will be sponsoring a Chick Fil-A Night Wednesday, February 12th from 4:30-7:30. Please see Mr. Kyes for a paper or digital copy of the flyer which you will need to present when ordering. The proceeds will go towards the Senator Cash cart and Quarterly Acknowledgments. Thank you for supporting Be A Senator!!

135 students from the Art, Music and Science departments received a coupon for a free slice of pizza for having perfect attendance in January. Don’t forget to redeem your coupon today in the commons. Next month we will visit different departments to deliver coupons so make sure you are present everyday to earn your slice.  We will be hitting all the departments this semester so everyone will get a chance to win!

Announcing the "Be PRESENT for Pizza Challenge"!! Every month BAS will be rewarding students for PERFECT ATTENDANCE that month with a coupon for a free slice of pizza to be redeemed on Pizza Thursday. BAS will be visiting each department during 4th hour this semester, but you won't know which department will be next! Be Great job Senators!!

Attention JUNIORS and SENIORS- If you are interested in serving as a poll worker for the upcoming March 17th Primary Election.Students must meet certain criteria to be eligible. Please see Mr. Kyes in the guidance office for an application and information. Students who are accepted will be paid $200.

The Sister Cities Association of Springfield (SCAS) is hosting two public information sessions for Springfield Area high school students interested in applying for a student exchange in Ashikaga, Japan. The first Public Information Session for will be held on Tuesday, February 10th, the second session is February 19th. The sessions will be at 7:00 PM in the Board Room of the Springfield District 186 Administrative Center, 1900 West Monroe Street, Springfield, IL 62704 (next to Grant Middle School, across from Fairhills Mall).

Hey hey hey JSA! There will be a debate in Mr. Hebb’s room after school today.

Congratulations to the academic challenge team for finish 3rd in the large school division at Sectionals on Tuesday.  Adrian Russo finish 1st in Mathematics and Computer Science. Ethan Sommers finished 3rd in Engineering Graphics. Julia Mitra finished second in Biology. Adrian and Julia will move on and compete in the sectionals at Eureka College on March 13th.
