Good morning Springfield High! Today is February 7, 2020

In honor of upcoming Black History Month, SHS is sponsoring a writing contest titled “The Legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr.” The winning prize is $100. All essays are due to Mrs. Eaton by February 14th.  There is no word minimum or limit, so submit an essay and win $100!!

Hey Everybody!!  “Want to win a pack of gift cards or coupons? Enter your name into Pen In A Box Clubs drawing at lunch Wed. and Fri. every week at lunch by donating just a $1! The 3 winners will be announced at the boys basketball game Feb 28th so be there!”

Valentine's Day is quickly approaching and what better way to show that special someone you care by giving them a flower. Carnations will be sold before school and during both lunch shifts in the Commons. Cost is only $1.00. Flowers will be delivered Feb 14th during 3rd hour.

Join us at Chipotle on February 15th from 4:00-8:00 pm!! Shrek, the SHS Spring Musical, is sponsoring a fundraiser and hopes to see everyone there. Get a burrito and support Shrek!

How about a nice warm and yummy breakfast enjoying it with your family or friends.  Join us at a Flapjack Fundraiser Saturday, February 22, 8-10 am at the Applebee's, 3335 S. Veterans Pkwy.  Enjoy pancakes, bacon and a drink for only $5.  Get your tickets now from any GAPP (German American Partnership Program) student.  All proceeds go towards the GAPP exchange to Ingolstadt, Germany, this June.

Are you one of those people who didn’t purchase a yearbook in time? You are in luck. Out of the kindness of her heart, Ms. Moon purchased 50 extra books!! It’s first come first serve. You can still go online to purchase at www.yearbookforever.com or see Ms. Moon in 364 with $80 cash or check, but only until we get to the magic number 50!! After that, there are no more yearbooks to be bought.  Period!! 

Juniors and Seniors who are eligible to apply for National Honor Society are posted on a list outside 326, 356, 153A, the Main Office, and the Library. If you are on that list and would like to apply, see Mr. Kramer ASAP. Final applications are due Tuesday, February 18th. Any questions, please see Mr. Kramer.

Attention current juniors, there will be an informational presentation about next year’s Sangamon CEO class on Tuesday, February 18th at 2:00pm in the library. If you are interested in learning more about the class, please sign up in the guidance office. Passes will be written for those interested in attending. Any questions, see Mrs. Lauer in guidance.

Be A Senator will be sponsoring a Chick Fil-A Night Wednesday, February 12th from 4:30-7:30. Please see Mr. Kyes for a paper or digital copy of the flyer which you will need to present when ordering. The proceeds will go towards the Senator Cash cart and Quarterly Acknowledgments. Thank you for supporting Be A Senator!!

Attention JUNIORS and SENIORS- If you are interested in serving as a poll worker for the upcoming March 17th Primary Election.Students must meet certain criteria to be eligible. Please see Mr. Kyes in the guidance office for an application and information. Students who are accepted will be paid $200.

The Sister Cities Association of Springfield (SCAS) is hosting two public information sessions for Springfield Area high school students interested in applying for a student exchange in Ashikaga, Japan. The first Public Information Session for will be held on Tuesday, February 10th, the second session is February 19th. The sessions will be at 7:00 PM in the Board Room of the Springfield District 186 Administrative Center, 1900 West Monroe Street, Springfield, IL 62704 (next to Grant Middle School, across from Fairhills Mall).

The Lady Senator basketball team honored Shay Doty on Senior Night and beat Jacksonville 74 to 26. SHS had five players in double figures: Kenzey Decker, Doty, Amya Hall, Chloe Byrd, and Sarah Byrd. Next up for SHS is a game at Chatham tomorrow starting at 1.
