Jostens will return to Springfield High School Commons on February 18th from 11:00 am-12:40 pm and again on February 19th from 7:30 am-12:40 pm to collect orders for class rings.
In honor of upcoming Black History Month, SHS is sponsoring a writing contest titled “The Legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr.” The winning prize is $100. All essays are due to Mrs. Eaton today. There is no word minimum or limit, so submit an essay and win $100!!

Attention current juniors, there will be an informational presentation about next year’s Sangamon CEO class on Tuesday, February 18th at 2:00 pm in the library. If you are interested in learning more about the class, please sign up in the guidance office. Passes will be written for those interested in attending. Any questions, see Mrs. Lauer in guidance.
Attention JUNIORS and SENIORS- If you are interested in serving as a poll worker for the upcoming March 17th Primary Election.Students must meet certain criteria to be eligible. Please see Mr. Kyes in the guidance office for an application and information. Students who are accepted will be paid $200.
Sadie's Dance is Saturday from 8-10 pm in the Commons! Tickets are for sale at lunch today, $10 each. Sadie's is not Homecoming formal, come more comfortable and be ready to enjoy yourself!
Mr. Kramer is taking a group of juniors and seniors on a bus trip to SIU-Edwardsville and McKendree on Tuesday, February 25th. We will leave at 7:45 and be back around the end of school. You must be passing all classes to go. We will have lunch provided for us. Any questions, or want a permissions slip see Mr. Kramer.
Congratulations to Joy Brown on her 3rd place finish in Poetry Out Loud yesterday evening. Over 1300 hundred Illinois students participated this year.
D&D club cancelled for tonight.
The Lady Senator basketball team won their regular season finale by beating Rochester 70 to 47. SHS was led in scoring by Sarah Byrd and Kenzey Decker each scoring 20 points, Shay Doty chipped in 13 and Virtuous Komolafe added 10. Kenzey Decker broke the school record for 3 pointers in a season with her first 3 of the game. She now has 101 for the season. SHS starts postseason play next Tuesday at Lincoln against the host team starting at 7:30.
The Sister Cities Association of Springfield (SCAS) is hosting two public information sessions for Springfield Area high school students interested in applying for a student exchange in Ashikaga, Japan. The next Public Information Session will be held February 19th. The session will be at 7:00 pm in the Board Room of the Springfield District 186 Administrative Center, 1900 West Monroe Street, Springfield, IL 62704 (next to Grant Middle School, across from Fairhills Mall).
