All SHS Students: You received an email announcement about watching a bus safety video. Your Canvas has the Youtube link to view the video. Even if you don’t ride a yellow school bus, please view it in the name of safety and preparation. Your 5th hour teacher will give you reminders and time in the next two weeks. Thank you!!

After School Tutoring is available from 3:30-4:30 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.   Students can access tutoring by clicking on the Academic Center located in Canvas.

The Mu Delta Lambda Charitable foundation and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity have a scholarship available for graduating seniors who will attend a two or four year university next year. Applicants are recommended to have a 2.75 GPA or higher and must submit two letters of recommendation and a one page essay answering the prompt “Discuss an event in your life that you had to overcome to become successful?” Application and essay are due by May 1st. Anyone interested, contact Mr. Kramer or Mrs. Lauer. 

If you are interested in joining the newspaper staff, you must submit an application by today. Applications can be picked up in Ms. Negele’s room- 362- or you can request one by email to lnegele@sps186.org. Newspaper class is open to sophomores, juniors and seniors who are interested in writing, editing, interviewing, advertising, and publishing the school newspaper. You must apply and be accepted into the newspaper class instead of just requesting it with your guidance dean. 

Attention Juniors - If you are interested in participating in the work program next year please see Mrs. Devlin in room 116. If you are a remote student please email Mrs. Devlin at kdevlin@sps186.org so that I can get all of the correct information and forms to you.

576 students had 95% attendance or higher for 3rd Quarter, great job! They will receive a coupon for a free slushy from Sonic. We will have a different reward for 4th Quarter so be sure to attend class, zooms and do your asynchronous check-ins. Thank you from Be A Senator!

Attention baseball players- Any young man interested in trying out for baseball who has not participated in any contact days this spring should e-mail Coach Steinwart to let him know of your intent to play. Coach's e-mail is found on the baseball site under Athletics on the SHS Home Page. All who plan to try out must have a current physical on file at school and must have turned in a green Athletic Permit Card along with parent permission to participate (found on the SHS home page). Tryouts begin April 5th.

Interested in joining the boys tennis team for the 2020-21 season?  Voluntary conditioning will be held this Monday, Wednesday and Friday beginning at 4:30pm at the Washington Park Tennis Center.  Please contact Coach Ingebrigtsen (jingebrigtsen@sps186.org) for more information.

The girls volleyball team suffered their first loss of the season last night 25-22 25-19 at Taylorville. Chloe Byrd led the lady Senators with 13 kills, Sarah Becker had 15 digs & Sydney Buhnerkemper had 23 assists. JV lost their first match of the season & the Freshmen pulled out a 3 set win.

The boys soccer team improved to 5 and 1 with a 3 to 1 victory over Lincoln. Sam Yoder, Isaac Kinsel and Carter Formea scored for the Senators.

Varsity football kicked off the season with a 50-19 victory over Lanphier. Rashad Rochelle, James Harris, Mitchel Logan and Jeffrey Elms all score TD’s for the Senators. Jesse Stewart led the defense with 10 tackles including 5 sacks and Ashaud Johnson had a big interception and return. The varsity team takes on Rochester at 2:00 on Saturday.
