Good morning Springfield High! Today is April 22, 2021

After School Tutoring is available from 3:30-4:30 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.   Students can access tutoring by clicking on the Academic Center located in Canvas.

The Mu Delta Lambda Charitable foundation and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity have a scholarship available for graduating seniors who will attend a two or four year university next year. Applicants are recommended to have a 2.75 GPA or higher and must submit two letters of recommendation and a one page essay answering the prompt “Discuss an event in your life that you had to overcome to become successful?” Application and essay are due by May 1st. Anyone interested, contact Mr. Kramer or Mrs. Lauer. 

Attention Faculty, Staff and students - The Central Illinois Blood center is hosting a Battle of the Mascots Blood Drive April 19-25th at the blood center 1999 Wabash Ave.  Each school that bring in at least 20 donation will receive a LifeSavings Grant.  The school that brings in the most donations will also receive a traveling trophy.  Every donor will receive a voucher to redeem either a pair of awesome blood donor socks or a gift card.  You must be 16 (with a parent permission slip) or 17 (no permission slip requires) and weigh at least 110 pounds to donate.  There will signs posted around the school with a QR code to register or you can get a slip from Mr. Covey.   See Mr. Covey in room 510 or email him at jcovey@sps186.org for more information.

The Board of Education invites interested incoming high school seniors to apply to become the 2021-2022 Student Board Member. One incoming senior will be chosen to serve during the upcoming school year. Applications and additional information can be found by visiting www.sps186.org/about/boe
and clicking on the “Student Board of Education Member Application Information” tab on the left hand side of the page. Applications are being accepted through 4:30 p.m. on Friday, May 7, 2021.

If you haven’t received your Lifetouch pictures at lunch, feel free to stop by Moon’s room (364) to grab them. If you know any remote students who need their pics, she can send those with you (with permission).  

Any junior interested in participating in the Work Program next year should contact Mrs. Devlin as soon as possible at kdevlin@sps186.org.

Tryouts for the 2021-2022 SHS Cheerleading squads are approaching. Tryout packets can be picked up from the main office or from Coach Johnson in room 168. The tryout process will begin with a mandatory tryout meeting Wednesday, May 5th at 6:00 pm in the SHS Commons. This is a MANDATORY informational meeting for parents and candidates. Any questions please see Coach Johnson. The information is also available on the SHS cheerleading website. 

Mrs. Devlin has had several businesses contact her wanting to hire SHS students. A flyer with business names is posted outside room 116, stop and pick one up if you are looking for a job.

 

The Senator softball team lost a close game to Taylorville last night, 6-4. Seniors Skyler Wantland and Mackenzie Devlin led the way with 2 hits apiece. Samantha Magalis chipped in with a hit and 2 RBI’s. 

 

The girls soccer team improved to 2 and 0 with a 6-1 victory over Williamsville. Emma Carrell scored 4 goals and McKenna Lambert and Lila Ambrose added a goal each.
