After School Tutoring is available from 3:30-4:30 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Students can access tutoring by clicking on the Academic Center located in Canvas.
The Mu Delta Lambda Charitable foundation and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity have a scholarship available for graduating seniors who will attend a two or four year university next year. Applicants are recommended to have a 2.75 GPA or higher and must submit two letters of recommendation and a one page essay answering the prompt “Discuss an event in your life that you had to overcome to become successful?” Application and essay are due by May 1st. Anyone interested, contact Mr. Kramer or Mrs. Lauer.
The Board of Education invites interested incoming high school seniors to apply to become the 2021-2022 Student Board Member. One incoming senior will be chosen to serve during the upcoming school year. Applications and additional information can be found by visiting www.sps186.org/about/boe
and clicking on the “Student Board of Education Member Application Information” tab on the left hand side of the page. Applications are being accepted through 4:30 p.m. on Friday, May 7, 2021.

Tryouts for the 2021-2022 SHS Cheerleading squads are approaching. Tryout packets can be picked up from the main office or from Coach Johnson in room 168. The tryout process will begin with a mandatory tryout meeting Wednesday, May 5th at 6:00 pm in the SHS Commons. This is a MANDATORY informational meeting for parents and candidates. Any questions please see Coach Johnson. The information is also available on the SHS cheerleading website.
Mrs. Devlin has had several businesses contact her wanting to hire SHS students. A flyer with business names is posted outside room 116, stop and pick one up if you are looking for a job.

The Boys track and field team competed on Tuesday against U High and Lanphier. Event champions for SHS were: Henry Kling in the High Jump, James Harris in the 100 and 200, the 4x100 relay team of Spencer Wood, Sean Graves, William Wang and Byron McNeil, and the 4x200 relay team of Sevyon Williams, Romeo Morton, James Harris and Henry Kling. Great work boys! The boys next compete on Thursday at New Street field against Glenwood and Taylorville.
The girls track and field team competed against Lanphier and U-High yesterday. Event winners for SHS were: Sarah Byrd in shot put and discus, Josie Ralph in high jump, Ineh Erewele in triple jump, Lilly Canum in the 100 and 300 hurdles, Linden Neposchlan in the 200, and Maddie Kim in the 1600.
The Senator softball team lost a tough one to Rochester last night, 6-2. Malia Bender led the way with 2 hits including 1 RBI. Samantha Magalis added 2 hits. The girls look to bounce back tonight against Glenwood at UIS at 4:30.
The baseball team enjoyed a solid CS8 opener by defeating Rochester 16 to nothing. Dalen Banks led the way on the mound by pitching a 4 inning shutout while allowing only 2 hits. Ryne Crum paced the offense with 3 hits, including a game ending 3-run homerun, while Kaleb Rogers added 2 hits, including a double. Next up is Glenwood today at 4:30 in Chatham.
The Springfield High School Boys Tennis Team competed in a dual meet against Quincy Senior High School yesterday, claiming a 5-4 victory. Noah Williams, Brian Becker, Zeke Cross and Ethan Stott brought home victories at singles while the pair of Brian Becker/David Jiang won at doubles. In Junior Varsity action, Tyke Espejo, Joe Brudnak and Canon Stearns were victorious at singles, while the tandem of Alec Breneman/Grant Thompson won at doubles. Everyone faced tough competition and played well.
