We are back to school on Tuesday, January 10, 2012. Here are some tips to successfully get your child back in to the school routine.
• Remind Children of the School Routine. Since children will have been out of school for three week, remind your child of the school routine. Make sure your child catches up on plenty of rest the last night or two before winter break ends and that he or she understands the school routine will go back to exactly what it was before the break. If the routine will be different, be sure to inform your child of the specific changes.
• Review Classroom and School Rules. It is important to refresh your child’s memory on the routines of his or her classroom and school rules. When your child has been away from the classroom for a length of time, it is easy to slip out of school mode. Remind your child that expectations will be the same when he or she arrives back at school.
• Discuss Expectations for Student Success . You may want set individual goals at home in order to get your child motivated and excited to, once again, begin the learning process.
• Focus on the Positive . Be patient and positive with your child. Being away from school for long period can be distracting, but the new year can also be a refreshing and exciting new beginning. Try to focus on the learning new concepts in 2012.
These are a few steps families can take with their children to have a successful second half of the school year. See you soon.
