Dear Southern View Families:
There are many ways in which the coronavirus pandemic has changed the way we live our lives and continues to affect the way we teach and the way students learn. Our students remain our focus and we will continue to make decisions with their best interests at heart.
In preparation for the upcoming 2020-21 school year and in anticipation that continued changes are in store, we will be following a traditional school calendar instead of the balanced calendar.
This means that students at Southern View will begin school in August alongside the rest of District 186 schools, and will follow the traditional school calendar for the 2020-21 school year. According to the original balanced calendar, students would have returned July 22. Instead however, we will begin our new school year on August 24. Also, online registration for next school year will begin on July 22nd.
This additional time between school years will help our teachers prepare for a variety of different possibilities and will give them ample time to work together and with the rest of the District on the best path forward for students.
We will continue to follow the guidelines and phases of the Governor’s Restore Illinois Plan, as well as guidance from Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE). We have District committees working on what school will look like in the Fall of 2020, and we will be communicating about our plans.
Our top priorities continue to be the health and safety of our students and staff and helping our families navigate this new way of learning.
