DID YOU KNOW:The Savoy Ballroom in Harlem, New York City was a popular dance venue in the 1920’s through 1950’s and played a pivotal role in the development of swing dancing and music. Simply put, it’s where Lindy Hop became famous. Located between 140th and 141st Streets on Lenox Avenue, the two story building housed an enormous ballroom on its 2nd floor that spanned an entire city block. The Savoy Ballroom was one of the first integrated entertainment venues.
Thursday on March 2, 2017 the READ 180 Classes will host a Harlem Renaissance Dance after school from 2:30-4:00pm in the cafeteria. This activity is for WMS students with no suspensions and less than 3 referrals for the month of February to attend. We encourage all students to dress up from the 1920’s and 30’s for the dance so your admission to the dance will be free! If you don’t want to dress the part you will have to wear your uniform and the cost is $2.
Art Club will meet TODAY after school instead of Thursday due to the dance. Please come if you can!
