Jul 29, 2016 Jefferson Middle School will be receiving $8000.00 from the Snapdragon Book Foundation Grant for books to support our JMS Bingo Book Challenge. In June, Mrs. Groesch was informed that Jefferson Middle School would be one of nine schools to receive funding out of 575 grant applications. Jefferson Middle School students will benefit from additions to the library books which will include books to replace old and worn out copies, next book in a series books and new titles.

Buy One, Get One Free Scholastic Book Fair

May 6, 2016 The 2018 Jefferson Middle School's Summer Reading Program Initiative will include a Buy One, Get One Free Book Fair. Students will be able to visit the book fair and select books they would like to read during the summer. Students were motivated and excited to select books of their choice.  When students read throughout the summer, they maintain the reading skills they worked to achieve suring the school year. 

There is a New Newbery Winner in Town

Jan 11, 2016 The winner of the John Newbery Medal has been announced and the winner is... "Hello, Universe" written by Erin Entrada Kelly. It is a story about a small group of middle school students and the strange circumstances in which they find themselves.   Three Newbery Honor books, the ones that did not receive the top award, were also announced. Be Ready! Research Paper Assignments Are Here!

Dec 15, 2015 It is time to gear up to write research papers. In order to do your best on your paper, it is necessary to know about plagiarism and source citations. Library classes during the winter will include lessons on avoiding plagiarism by citing your sources within the text of your paper and giving credit to the original author(s) on a Works Cited page. The JMS Book Challenge!

Dec 15, 2015 In January, Jefferson Middle School will began our JMS Book Challenge! Students, teachers, and staff challenged themselves to read five books. This year, we sponsored a "BINGO" theme. Staff and students had the opportunity to read from several genres and reach a goal to COMPLETE THE CHALLENGE. Several classes earned a letter for every ten books the class read and spelled the word, B-I-N-G-O. READ MORE

Library Winner

Nov 9, 2015 Throughout the school year, the library will be hosting "Candy Jar Contests" in which someone will win a jar of candy. Only students without any overdue books on their records will be allowed to sign up for the candy during their library class. Students, you won't know in advance when a new candy jar will be announced so always make sure you have no overdue books so you can qualify. Our winner in October was an 8th grader. Teryn W. won a whole jar of candy corn. READ MORE

JMS Reading Poster Winners Announced

Nov 9, 2015 The JMS Library sponsored a Reading Poster Contest throughout the month of October. There were so many great posters but the three that took a prize were: 3rd Place-Angel W.-Won a bag of candy 2nd Place-Jakaylia W.-Won a bag of candy 1st Place-Kate B.-Won a $25.00 gift card to Barnes and Noble Congratulations to all of the winners! Newbery and Coretta Scott King Medal Award Winners Announced

Mar 24, 2015 The winners for this year's Newbery and Coretta Scott King Awards were recently announced. The Newbery winner is, "The Crossover" written by Kwame Alexander. Two Newbery Honor books were also announced, "El Deafo" by Cece Bell and "Brown Girl Dreaming" by Jacqueline Woodson. The Corretta Scott King Medal goes to, "Brown Girl Dreaming" by Jacquelin Woodson. We currently have, "El Deafo" and "Brown Girl Dreaming" in our library. READ MORE
