To follow up our study of health and safety we were able to enjoy a day of exploring safety in our community. Some EMTs that work with the children's ambulance came to visit. They showed the inside of the ambulance and demonstrated how to use a backboard and a stretcher. They talked about the importance of calling 911 in an emergency.
We were also able to practice our pedestrian safety skills on a walk to visit our neighborhood fire station. While there the students were able to spray water from a fire hose, go through a fire truck and see where the fire fighters eat, sleep and work when they are on duty but not out fighting a fire. They also reminded the students about using smoke alarms, having an escape plan at home and to not play with matches or lighters.
