As our school year is set to begin, I just wanted to take a moment to share some thoughts and details about our Art program here, at Dubois Elementary.
At Dubois, we recognize the impact of imagination and its underlying strength in developing flexible, creative, analytical, inquisitive and humanistic minds.
A core belief of a Visual Arts education at Dubois is the belief that ART IS FOR EVERYONE, not just the "talented" or select few. We believe that a visual education is an essential part of addressing the needs of the whole child. Visual literacy allows students the opportunity to become more aware of the rich history of human ideas throughout the world as expressed through the Arts.
Engaging in the Visual Arts encourages our students to trust their ability to see, to gather information, and to reflect over their own observations.
IN THE WEEKS AHEAD,students will be working hard to complete projects which will be gathered throughout the year in their personal portfolios. These pieces will "live" in the art room until the end of the school year, when students will bring their masterpieces home.
IN ADDITION, 4th and 5th grade students will be maintaining individual sketchbooks, where they will explore the Elements of Art and Principles of Design through various activities.
Two separate "newsletters"(Fall and Spring), will be available during the school year. Both will be accessible online and in print. Look for grade level content, project information, community calendar dates, and other useful arts-related information. Each month, NEWS, PHOTOS, and RESOURCES will be posted and updated on this teacher webpage.
We are poised for a wonderful year of Visual Arts!
Thank-you for your continued respect and support for Arts education in your child's life.
