"LINE" Art Project for 1st Grade, 2nd Grade, & 3rd Grade  (Also Great For Kindergarten)                          ` / _ ~  - <  " ' -

Fun project using the art element "line."  Students may use a piece of paper and any art medium (what they use to make their mark) of their personal choicepencil, crayons, markers, and more!   Some different types of lines are: vertical, horizontal, and diagonal. There are soft wavy lines and sharp zigzag lines. Plus wide lines and thin lines. There is even broken line. So many lines!

To begin your "line " art project :

1)  DRAW A VARIETY OF LINES ACROSS YOU PAGE.

2)  FILL IN GAPS / SPACES WITH COLOR (IF YOU USED A MEDIUM WITH COLORS SUCH AS CRAYONS OR MARKERS), OR YOU MAY "SHADE" (PRESS PENCIL DOWN LIGHT OR DARK).

AN EXAMPLE OF ONE WAY TO GO ABOUT THIS PROJECT (YOU MAY DO HOWEVER YOU WISH):

1) Your paper my be set in front of you vertically or horizontally.

2)  Depending on size of your paper draw downward from top of page to botton of page about 3 lines if you laid your page vertically in front of you.   If you laid your page horizontally in front of you, then draw for top to bottom about 4 straight lines.

4) Then do the opposite with straight lines from the top to the bottom. (It will look a bit like you are going to play the game of checkers.

5) Then you may go diagonal somewhere with a big soft wavy line ( ~ ).

6) Then go diagonal the opposite way somewhere with a sharp zigzag line ( M ,W, Z ).

7) Optional Finishing for 1st, 2nd, 3rd Grades:  You may then color in full any spaces you made if you used a medium that has colors (such as crayons or markers) , or may "shade" in solid any of the shapes you made, if you used a pencil.

NOTE: 2nd & 3rd Grades may make patterns inside the shapes you made from lines, if you prefer that over making it solid.  Up to you!

EVERYONE ~ WHEN YOU ARE FINISHED: Your art is art-tastic!  Then remember to clean up. Next take time to ponder and ask yourself some questions (part of your state goals in art in categories of response and connects).  Some questions you may ask yourself are: "What was the coolest part?" What is one thing you learned? Do you have any clothing at home, or bed sheets, or a couch, or a checkerboard at home that that has lines or shapes in patterns on it?  When you are outdoors have you noticed the lines separted the concrete in sections on a sidewalk or driveway?

You are art-rageous! Enjoy the rest of your day and see where else you see lines... ~ - _= | `"'~ /
