K-5 Create! and Blog Week of May 18

May 16, 2020

Surrealist artists make art about dreams and thoughts we don’t even know we are thinking.  Often times surrealist artists draw or paint objects that do not logically belong together or doing things they do not do in real life.

The History of 'The Persistence of Memory' by Salvador Dali

Surrealist artist Salvador Dali painted about melting clocks in his painting The Persistence of Memory.  This is an example of real life objects painting realistically doing things they cannot do in real life.

The Son of Man by René Magritte (1964) – The Squirrel Review

Another Surrealism artist was named Rene Magritte.  He was from Belgium.  This is an example of objects that do not go together painted together so life like it looks like a photograph.

Here is your assignment for this week.  Think CREATIVELY!  Don’t just grab the first thing you see, find something unique and different in your house.  Hold it in front of your face and have someone take a picture like the painting on the right.  Send it to me!  If you would rather write to me in blog form tell me what you think about the top painting called the Persistence of Memory.
