Dear Jefferson Middle School Families,
I hope this letter finds you all enjoying the last few weeks of summer! I am excited to introduce myself as the new principal of Jefferson Middle School. I am honored to have been selected to join the Jefferson Jaguars for the upcoming school year. Over the past 15 years, I have worked as a teacher and Administrator and have spent 12 of those years in District 186. I am proud to call this district my home, and firmly stand by our district mission and values. Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my husband and two children, as well as gardening, golfing, and cooking. During my educational journey, I spent ten years teaching culinary arts at Lanphier High School which were some of the best years of my life. This year I will have the honor to spend a lot of time with your children, getting to know their personalities, learning styles and interests. I will celebrate their successes, small and large. I will encourage them every day and let them know they are valued and have a special place as unique and diverse individuals in our school community. I truly am excited for the year ahead, and look forward to working with you all this school year.
Not only am I excited to begin working with your children, but I look forward to the work we will do
together as a team. As the old saying goes, “It takes a village to raise a child.” This quarter one way we can be a village together, is by encouraging our students to follow our set behavior expectations in the hallways. Please help us in reminding them to always keep their hands to themselves, walk to their destination without distractions, and keep their voice level and language appropriate. We feel that as a team, we can create an even better learning environment for our students by focusing on this area. This year we will also be utilizing metal detectors each day when the students arrive at school, and at our sporting events. We can also use your help by reminding students that we will need their patience and cooperation as we all learn to implement this new safety system into our day.
My goal as a school leader is to ensure that not only are all children healthy, happy and safe, but that they also enjoy coming to school each day to learn. Because of this goal, we will ensure that the children who are following our building expectations for academics and behavior are recognized and rewarded. As a team we have created a plan of exciting events and rewards which we will be utilizing for students that do not have any tardies or referrals during the first quarter. We will also reward students who are meeting their academic quarterly goals as well. We can’t wait to share pictures of these celebrations with you all on our new website! These and other important information can be found at https://www.sps186.org/o/jefferson. In my quarterly family newsletters I will include important information regarding school events and other updates. These will be available on our website, sent through email to all families, and are available via postal mail as well. Below, I’ve included some important dates and other important information.
