*Be A Senator’s character focus for September is Responsibility. At SHS, students show responsibility by arriving to school on time, every day. Take 10 minutes before bedtime to get ready for the next day by packing your book bag, selecting your outfit, and setting everything you need for school in one location. Also, be sure to get at least 8 hours of sleep. Being rested and prepared in the morning will eliminate morning stress and make it easier to get to school on time. All students currently enrolled in a business class this semester, or who have taken a business class before, are invited to join.
Please come to an informational meeting for the new chapter of Springfield High School’s Future Business Leaders of America Business Club on Wednesday, September 16th, after school at 2:30 in Mrs. Cooper’s Room 1307.
Again, FBLA/Business Club is ONLY open to students currently enrolled or who have already taken ANY Business Class.

*PSAT/NMSQT sign-up is now available in the Guidance Office. The PSAT/NMSQT is the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test for Juniors; however, freshmen and Sophomores can also take the exam. The due date to sign up is October 1st. The cost is $18 and can be paid with cash or check. The test date is Tuesday, October 20th. Any questions? Email Mr. Robinson rrobinson@sps186.org
*Plant Club will have its first meeting of the year on Tuesday, September 15. We will meet in Ms. Reinders room, 1516 from 3:30-4:30. Everyone is welcome! See Ms. Reinders if you have any questions.
Debate club will meet in Room 3330 on Thursday until 4:30 p.m. New members are welcome.
The Chess Club is officially kicking off, and our very first meeting is this Thursday! Whether you want to climb the competitive ladder, learn the basic rules, or just hang out and play casual games with friends, there is a spot at the board for you. No experience is required—we will teach you everything you need to know. Meet in Mr. Hull's room after school this Thursday.
Model UN will meet in Room 3330 on Friday until 4:00 p.m.
The girls swimming and diving team continued their season at the Capital City Invite. They took 4th overall as a team. Emma Herrin led the team with a first place finish in the 50 freestyle and followed it up with a 1st place finish in the 100 butterfly and set a new SHS team record in the 100 fly! Chloe Scheffler added a 1st place finish in the 100 backstroke and a 6th place finish in the 200 freestyle. Elle Milliman had a 4th place finish in the 500 freestyle and Natasha O'Brien had a fourth place finish in the 100 breaststroke. Congratulations on a great meet!
The cross country team competed at the Lee Halberg Invite at Lincoln Park on Saturday. The JV girls were led by Ava Fultz. The Varsity girls were led by Nora Andring. The JV boys finished in 10th place and were led by Gabe Bowen. The Varsity boys finished in 5th place and were once again led by Collin Nolte. The team next competes on Saturday at the Peoria Notre Dame Invite.
