Senators show Responsibility by holding themselves accountable for their actions. Don’t blame others or make excuses for your behavior. People will respect you so much more if you admit when you are wrong and try to make things right. Everyone makes mistakes, but Senators take responsibility for their actions and learn from it. The Homecoming Dance is Saturday, October 3rd at SHS from 7:00 – 9:30 p.m. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. Students will not be admitted after 8:00 p.m. Students will enter through security at the main doors off Lewis Street. Tickets are $15 per person. All students will pass through metal detectors and a bag search for entry. If a SHS student is bringing an outside guest, the proper guest form must be filled out in its entirety and returned to the Guidance Office by Thursday, October 1st at 3:30 p.m. Late forms are not accepted. Guest forms are available in the Guidance Office. All guests must have valid picture identification. No exceptions will be made on the form or guest IDs in the name of safety and security. Guests must arrive/leave and stay with their SHS student at all times.
*PSAT/NMSQT sign-up is now available in the Guidance Office. The PSAT/NMSQT is the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test for Juniors; however, freshmen and Sophomores can also take the exam. The due date to sign up is October 1st. The cost is $18 and can be paid with cash or check. The test date is Tuesday, October 20th. Any questions? Email Mr. Robinson rrobinson@sps186.org
Any junior or senior who is interested in working at an election site on November 3rd from 6am to 7pm, please see Mr. Lightfoot for an application and details. To apply, you must have a 3.0 GPA or higher and parent permission.

If you love reading and talking about books and want to get involved in some extra SHS fun, then Book Club is the perfect club for you! We are having our first meeting of the year on Thursday, Sept. 24 from 3:30-4:30 in Ms. Negele's room (3312). This is a stress-free group for nice people who want to hang out, chat about books, and get recommendations. Everyone is invited, and we hope to see you on the 24th!
Today after school, there will be a short meeting for anyone interested in helping behind the scenes or building the set for the fall play, Murder on the Orient Express, in Dr. Eaton's room 3302.
French Club will be having our first meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 22nd after school in Room 2342 until 4pm. Anyone can join French Club--see Madame Boltz in Room 2342 to join.
Scholastic Bowl will have is first practice and informational meeting for new players on Wed 3:30-5 in Dr. Eaton's room 3302. There will be brief new parent meeting after in the Commons. See Dr Eaton with questions or if you can't make it Wednesday.
Seniors and Juniors - college rep visit season is upon us. Check canvas announcements and the college visits tab for info about who is coming and when they are. This week 3 visits are scheduled and more will make their way to SHS in the coming weeks. See canvas for more info or ask Kramer.
WEDNESDAY WILL BE THE BEST DAY OF THE WEEK! Leardi is thrilled to announce Wednesday we will be grilling fresh, delicious, and quite affordable HOT DOGS during both lunch shifts. Student Council will be selling these dogs for just $1! What a steal! Staff, if you'd like a ribeye, please be sure to respond to Kramer's email by Tuesday at noon.
Homecoming week is coming! Sunday afternoon we kick off the week with Juniors and Seniors competing in the PowderPuff game while all four classes work to decorate their hallway. Spirit Week will begin Monday, themes will be announced tomorrow. Tuesday evening we will host our yearly Solon Olympics where classes compete in a series of games to see who is the best at SHS, Friday evening we have our tailgate before the game and followed by the football game against Quincy Notre Dame, we culminate with the dance Saturday evening! Be sure to participate and be as involved as possible the whole week to make it the best experience we can. You know who has school spirit? Matt Murphy! We are all lucky to be in this building with him. Such poise and grace. Be like Matt!
The girls swimming diving team took sixth out of 16 teams Saturday at the Charger Invite in Champaign. Emma Herrin took 3rd in the 50 free and 1st in the 100 butterfly. Chloe Scheffler took 4th in the 100 backstroke and Elle Milliman took 6th in the 500 freestyle. Chloe, Emma and Elle teamed up with Lila Martin to take 4th in the 400 free relay and 5th in the 200 free relay. The team will take on SHG and Glenwood on Saturday.
The Springfield High School Girls Tennis Team competed in the Titan Invitational this past weekend. Congratulations on their team and individual performances. Ida Seeger scored a second place finish at first singles, while Zoey Thongsithavong finished in fifth place at second singles. The doubles team of Madisyn Williams and London Thongsithavong also claimed a fifth place finish at first doubles, while the team of Priya Sumant and Hannah Jannetzke contributed a victory at second doubles.
The cross country team continued their season on Saturday at the Peoria Notre Dame invitational in Peoria. Nora Andring led the varsity girls and Charlotte Kirchhoff led the fresh/soph girls team. On the boys side, Collin Nolte was the top finisher for the varsity team and Will Tonstad led the way for the Fresh/soph team. The teams next compete on Saturday when they host the SHS invite at Lincoln Park. Races start at 8:45 on Saturday morning.
