Assessment Highlights
The main purpose of assessment is to improve student learning. Throughout the year, students will take a variety of school, district, and state assessments. These assessments either help educators prepare for student learning or provide information of student learning. In both instances, assessment involves an on-going process of gathering information about the knowledge and skills students possess, and then using this information to make instructional plans to improve student learning.
Beginning in the fall of 2017, our district began to administer the Measures of Academic Progress, or MAP assessment. The MAP is a formative assessment that is given three times per year to give teachers information on what students are ready to learn. This assessment adapts to each student's ability and helps monitor their individual growth over time. Please see the MAP information section of this webpage for more information.
The Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) is an interim assessment in reading and math that is designed to measure student growth and learning needs at important benchmarks in the year: beginning, middle, and end. This benchmark assessment adapts to each student's ability measuring what the student knows, diagnoses instructional needs, monitors growth over time, and provides information to make data-driven deicsions related to instructional planning and learning. Students and families receive reports after each administration of the MAP so that they can partner with teachers in setting goals for continued academic growth.
NWEA MAP provides several reports for teachers, students, and families that communicate students' ready to learn levels and typical projected growth in comparison to other students across the nation who take the MAP. Due to the wealth of information MAP provides, teachers will learn about reports in phases.
