Farm to School Initiative

This fall, Food Services is excited to announce our participation in the Farm to School Initiative. Beginning in September, all middle and high schools will begin utilizing local ground beef from Gregurich Farms from Pawnee , IL.

Items featuring this ground beef are noted on menus with the Illinois symbol next to the menu item. This is an exciting new addition to our cafeterias, and for more information on Gregurich Farm click here. For more information on the Farm to School Initiative, click here.

Community Eligibility Provision Program

Springfield Public Schools participates district wide in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) program where a healthy breakfast and lunch are provided at no charge to every student. No applications are required to receive these free meals. The CEP program does not apply to Student Fees and parents/guardians are still required to pay these fees. However, if a parent/guardian feels they are unable to pay for the fees (book, technology, lab, etc) you can apply to have the fees waived by completing a Student Fee Waiver Form (one form per household). Forms are also available at your student's school.

What's Happening Around the District

All of our Middle Schools and High Schools now offer homemade fresh Smoothies at least once a week during  breakfast.

We are lucky to have all of our elementary and four middle schools participate in the USDA Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Grant Program. Every week the students and teachers are given a sample of a fruit or vegetable plus information about that product during their class time.
