We hosted our first-ever Back to School Event, and it was everything our families and community needed—and more. With the support and collaboration of our Family and Community Engagement Team, along with key partners like Molina Health, Springfield Clinic, One in a Million Inc., the Springfield Public Schools Foundation, Faith Coalition for the Common Good, and Together 4 IL, we were able to create a meaningful, impactful day for hundreds of local families.
More than 60 vendors from across the community came together to offer a wide range of support and resources—all in one place. Families were able to pick up free school supplies, and we gave away over 500 backpacks to help students start the year off strong. There was free food and snacks, access to sports and school physicals, and even job opportunities with local employers, including District 186.
It was powerful to see the turnout and to witness firsthand how much our families appreciated having a one-stop shop for back-to-school preparation. From the organizations who set up booths, to those who offered nearby parking, to the many volunteers who helped bring it all together—we are deeply grateful.
This event was a true reflection of what’s possible when our community shows up for our students. Here’s to a fantastic start to the 2025–2026 school year. We are proud, we are prepared, and above all—We Are 186.
