Our Family and Community Engagement department ( F.A.C.E.) worked with Telephone Pioneers who provided over 400 area students with a brand-new pair of shoes from Shoe Carnival just in time for winter! đź‘źđź‘ź
Springfield firefighters were there to lend a hand and help the kids try on their new shoes and also provided students with a tour of a fire engine.
The Telephone Pioneers have been providing shoes for our students since the 1950’s when a telephone repairman inquired as to why students stopped raising the flag during the winter months. When he found out it was because they didn’t have proper footwear, he piled 8 students into his pickup truck and took them to the shoe store to buy shoes. The repairman’s daughter and her husband continued the tradition in his memory.
