This is the 39th year Horace Mann is honoring excellence in education with its Educator of the Year awards. The Educator of the Year program recognizes the top teachers in District 186 and the Administrator of the Year program honors the top administrators. In addition, the Rising Star award is given to teachers who have no more than four years of experience and are showing great promise.
Nominations for all three awards are due by end of day Friday, February 27, 2026 , after which a committee composed of educators and community members will review nominations and select finalists.

Project Search helps students ages 18-21 with intellectual and developmental disabilities gain real-world work experience, build confidence and develop important social and job skills.

We’re excited to share that school is back in session for our regular calendar schools on Tuesday, January 6th. Our staff returns Monday, and we are eager to welcome everyone back for a strong start to the second semester!
Families at our balanced calendar schools—Southern View and Graham Elementary—will return to the classroom on Tuesday, January 13th.
Attendance is important, and we appreciate our families and community for helping ensure students arrive on time, ready, and excited to learn each day.

The project was honored with the Award of Distinction—the highest recognition for excellence in designing educational environments. This incredible honor was presented to our superintendent and members of our school board at the 2025 IASB/IASA/IASBO Joint Annual Conference.
