It's happening!!!!😍 Our two balanced calendar schools, Graham Elementary & Southern View Elementary will start back this Wednesday, July 19th! We are so excited to connect & welcome you into the classroom for the 2023-2024 school year! 📖🖥 Superintendent Jennifer Gill visited both schools today & checked in with Principals Chris Hood & Serita Lott and staff. A big shoutout to our custodial staff for getting both of the buildings clean and ready for students! 📣 For all 186 families, if you haven't done so yet, please make sure your student(s) are registered ASAP!

Families can use the District 186 App this school year with a new feature, Rooms! Rooms allows families to communicate directly with your student's teachers & principal. Make sure you download the District 186 App today on your mobile device!! Early next week an email invite will be sent for you to gain access to ROOMS within the app!

Our Jump Start to Kindergarten program at Black Hawk has our young students preparing and learning what to expect when they enter Kindergarten in August. This program helps students to gain confidence and comfortability about what to expect in the classroom setting. The students have also gotten to experience fun activities! They loved getting to go on a field trip to the Kidzeum of Health and Science! We are 186! #ignite186

Students needing their immunizations can take advantage of the walk-in back to school immunization clinic at Sangamon County Department of Public Health this week, July 10- July 14th .

Calling all incoming 6th graders!! 📢📢 Incoming 6th grade students are invited to attend a 6th grade orientation at their home school on Thursday, August 10th, from 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. Students will engage in activities, tour the school and learn more about their upcoming middle school experience. Please note that bus routes will be running that day as well.

Central Illinois Foodbank is hosting a walk-up food distribution & cooking demo at Matheny-Withrow Elementary from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. on Thursday, July 13th. This event is open to the public!

Looking to make a difference? Join Team 186!! We are hosting a Job Fair, Tuesday July 11th from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. at the District Office, 1900 W. Monroe.

Welcome Class of 2027!! Incoming Freshman mark your calendars for our Freshman Forward event at each of our highschools!! This event is an opportunity for incoming freshman to meet other freshman, upperclassmen, teachers and administration at their high school. Students will get to tour the facility and learn more about their high school experience. Students need to report to their high school that is in their boundary area. Students can use the school bus service or be dropped off at their high school.

Due to the power outage, the Administrative Office is closed. If you need immediate assistance, please contact the Business Office at 217-525-3040. We expect to resume normal operations Monday, July 3.

All summer school programs and SCOPE are canceled Friday, June 30, to allow maintenance staff to assess and clean up buildings and grounds. We expect all programs to resume next week as normally scheduled.

All students and staff in summer programs are safe. Buses will run at the normal time, but routes may take longer due to traffic or blocked streets. Families are welcome to pick up students early. The safety of our students and staff is our top priority.

The sun is out but the classroom is in! Many of our elementary students are enjoying a summer full of adventure and learning with Summer Scope! Summer Scope is one of our many summer programs we are offering! This year both of our programs reached capacity & are offered at both Wilcox Elementary and Sandburg Elementary. Students are exposed to unique and fun experiences around Central Illinois . Since Project Scope started on June 6th, students have already enjoyed jumping at Skyzone, a trip to Overlook Adventure Park in Decatur, and even a performance by Chris Camp, The Whip Guy. We enjoy providing summer programming & opportunities for our students and we appreciate all of our community partners and community relationships! #ignite186

Way to go!!👏🏿 👏🏼👏🏾 Friends, families , staff and community members gathered tonight at The Salvation Army to celebrate the 2023 graduates of the Springfield Branch NAACP Illinois Back to School/Stay in School Academy. NAACP Back to School/ Stay in School Academy is a community-based alternative program for District 186 students. NAACP President Teresa Haley, Program Director, Tim Allen & Superintendent Jennifer Gill presented the graduates with their diplomas! Xyoness Williams and Makayla Horton both gave wonderful speeches about their time on the program and their mentors. We are proud of you!
